Techiman health officials have increased⬆ surveillance and monitoring👀 following 6⃣ deaths to pneumococcal meningitis infections😔. The deaths😔 were recorded during the weekend. Since the beginning of the year, 21 cases of pneumococcal meningitis infections have been recorded✒ in the region. However, South Municipal Health Director Damien Punguyire has assured👍🏻 that the disease is under control. However, looking at the numbers being recorded, we are not so sure😳. The Northern Region has also recorded cases of ✒ the disease.
🔸Meningitis is a disease caused by inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord known as the meninges.
🔸Indications include infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
