On Friday, the the BJP🔸 - led Central NDA government came out with a notification allowing the controversial bull-taming sport of ‘Jallikattu’🔪🐮 following high demand for its restoration by political parties in Tamil Nadu, effectively reversing its ban🚫 in 2014. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals🐰, India (PETA), soon petitioned against❌ the decision. PETA🐰 said that even the BJP🔸 supporters are “horrified” that the same people who claimed to care about cows🐄 are now allowing condoning cruelty again even after an SC🏤 ban🚫. The use of bulls in performances was banned🚫 by the Environment Ministry in 2011 and bull races and bull fights have been illegal since 1960 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Reports say that from 2010 to 2014, approximately 1,100 injuries🤕 and 17😔 deaths were caused due to 🔪🐮 Jallikattu-like events.
