Rs 2.35 crore in new currency seized in income tax raids on two businessmen in Assam

In one the biggest seizure of cash in Assam after the nationwide demonetisation drive, the income tax (I-T) department here on Thursday seized at least Rs 2.35 crore in new currency denominations from a business establishment at Nagaon Barabazar in Nagaon district, some 110 km from here.

Sources in the I-T department said that the raid was conducted after they received specific inputs. Sources said, "Out of the total cash seized so far, around Rs 2.29 crore were in new Rs 2000 notes while around Rs 1 lakh was in Rs 500 notes."

The owner of the business establishment, Amulya Das and Tapan Das were being interrogated by income tax sleuths.
