  |   Tech News

The 💲25 bn company, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, says it expects only small disruptions to the supply of chips✳ used in smartphones📱 & PCs after the 6.4 Richter earthquake that killed 12 and destroyed buildings🏢. The company manufactures chips for Apple🍎, Qualcomm and others, and reported no injuries or damage to its factories🏭 and its deliveries won’t be affected by more than 1⃣% this quarter. Another chip manufacturer, UMC, says it expects “no meaningful impact”😐 from the quake. The quake hit during the seasonally slower first quarter and so had a reduced economic impact. In comparison, a 7.3 quake in Sep 1999 stopped Taiwan’s chip industry for 6⃣ days, hurting their economy, and also killed more than 2,400 people😔.
