Last weekend, Apple🍎 customers became the targets of hackers using ransomware. This is the first time a ransomware attack💥 campaign has been launched against Macs🖥. Ransomware is one of the fastest-growing types of cyber attacks💥. It encrypts data on infected👾 machines, then typically asks users to pay ransoms💸 in hard-to-trace digital currencies💰 to unlock their computer. In this case 1⃣ Bitcoin (~💲400). It is estimated that several hundred millions of dollars💰💰 are taken by these cyber criminals😈. They’ve typically targeted users with Windows-based💻 computers in the past. This particular ransomware is called the “KeRanger” malware & appeared on Friday. The Macs🖥 were infected via a corrupted copy of a popular program – Transmission v2.90 - a peer-to-peer file sharing programme. The company had to revoke❌ a digital certificate that enabled the rogue software to install on Macs🖥 to avoid further damage. Transmission also removed⛔ the malicious version of the software from its website.
