After all the news about drought, the Indian Meteorological Department⛈ (Met) is predicting an “above normal” monsoon☔ this year. If it comes to be this should end a 2⃣-year continuous drought🔆 and help revive the agricultural🌱 economy. The Met⛈ said that the monsoon is expected to be 106% above normal👏 with a 5⃣% error in the forecast. 2⃣ other private forecasters are predicting the same👍. The farm sector has been hit bad😞 and growing only 1.3% in 2014-15 and estimated to be 2% in 2015-16, short of its 4% target🎯. Even though the agricultural sector contributes only 15% to 🇮🇳's GDP it employs more than 50% of India’s workforce💪. Maharashtra’s drought hit regions like Marathwada and Vidarbha are also expected to receive good rainfall🌧. This should help rural incomes and hopefully end farmer suicides😞 this year. The rains💦 should arrive by the end of May or early June.
