Newly minted Rajya Sabha member, Subramanian Swamy (BJP) served notice for a debate on the ₹3,600 crore AgustaWestland VVIP 🚁helicopter deal. The deal was inked in 2010 when the Congress-led UPA was in power and involved 12 choppers to be used by top leaders including the PM. 🇮🇹 Italian authorities investigating alleged bribery of 🇮🇳Indian officials by defence manufacturer 🚁AgustaWestland's parent company, Finmeccanica have cited documents that name "Signora Gandhi" and former PM Manmohan Singh, but does not specifically call out wrongdoing on either of their parts. The topic has been of renewed interest in Parliament after the 🇮🇹 Italian court accused the UPA government of not sharing critical documents with investigators, and pointed to "reasonable belief" that the 2010 deal involved corruption.
