In a Copa America Centenario🏆 quarterfinal which was supposed to be a battle⚔ between 2 well-matched teams, Chile read the script wrong and demolished💥 the Mexicans who went down with a whimper. Chile put 7 goals⚽ past a stunned Mexico team😲 which had not been beaten in their last 22 games. Eduardo Vargas was the star⭐ of the day with 4 goals as Mexico endured one of the worst nights🙆 ever in their footballing history. Chile took an early lead when Edson Puch, standing in for Mauricio Isla, tucked away a rebound in the 16th minute🕐. From then on, Guillermo Ochoa made a habit of picking the ball up from his net as Sanchez and co. ran riot💥. Vargas doubled the lead just before half-time when he took Sanchez's cross in his stride and fired past Ochoa👌.
The 2nd half could only be described as an abject surrender👎 from Mexico. A Vidal cutback was finished by Sanchez before a defensive error led to Vargas breaking free and firing past Ochoa👏. Vargas netted twice more as Mexican defenders gave up trying to defend😟. Puch finished the scoring in the 87th minute as the defending champions marched forward🏃. Chile will play Colombia in the semifinals.
