Just ahead of a special session👥 of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) meeting in Vienna, Mexico has backed👍 India's bid for entry into the group. The news📰 was announced by Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto after a meeting with Indian PM Narendra Modi in Mexico City👏. Earlier, Switzerland had also announced its decision to back 🇮🇳India's application. The major stumbling block for India will be China that argues that NSG members must be signatories✍ to the Non-proliferation treaty (NPT)🙆. In addition, Pakistan has also applied📜 for entry which might complicate proceedings. In fact, Pakistan has formally asked USA to support its application😏.
Despite garnering major support, there are reservations among several countries🤔 on India's entry into the group, who feel iron-clad assurances that Indian activities in its civilian nuclear program☢ won’t be used for military purposes is needed.
