Eagles job: NFF in last minute rush to save face

Rattled by the rejection of an offer for the Super Eagles technical adviser job by Frenchman Paul Le Guen, the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation yesterday gave the technical and Development Committee a 7-day ultimatum to recommend a new name for the vacant position of a technical adviser for the senior national team.

In a 5-point communique signed by Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee, Hon Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, the Executive Committee instructed the Technical and Development Sub –Committee to, “within the next seven (7) days, recommend a candidate for the post of Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles”.

It noted that the refusal of Mr. Paul Le Guen, earlier recommended by the Sub –Committee, to accept to be given targets as well as his unwillingness to live in Nigeria, made his candidature unacceptable to the Board.

The board also noted that Le Guen’s insistence on bring two assistants from Europe would have made the Nigerian assistants redundant.
