A study📄 published in the Lancet HIV journal📕 titled the New Global Burden of Disease 2015 found that 28.81 lakh Indians👥 were living with HIV😕. It showed that there were 1.96 new infections in India🇮🇳 last year and 25 lakh new infections worldwide🌐 which hasn’t changed in 🔟years. It shows a slow decline in new HIV infections at 📉0.7% between 2005 & 2015 compared to the low 2.7% between 1997 and 2005. However, the number of infected😷 is increasing from📈 27.96 M in 2000 to 38.8 M in 2015. Annual HIV/AIDS💉 have declined from a peak of 1.8 M in 2005 to 1.2 M in 2015 due to antiretroviral therapy. Lead author✍ Haidong Wang from Washington Uni said🔉, "Although scale-up of antiretroviral therapy and measures to prevent mother-to-child transmission have had a huge impact on saving lives, our new findings present a worrying picture of slow progress in reducing new HIV infections over the past 10 years.”
