Despite 🇷🇺Russia's 🚫ban from international 🏆 competition, the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) has named a 68 athlete squad for Olympics 2016. The squad includes 🏅Yelena Isinbayeva, 2⃣ time pole vault champion, and Ivan Ukhov, 2012 high jump 🏅gold medallist.
Russia was 🚫banned in November following allegations of 😳state-sponsored, widespread 💉doping💊. Russia's athletes and the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) appealed the ban in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and are 🕐awaiting a final decision on July 21st. A few athletes will be allowed to compete as 'neutral athletes' if they meet stringent 💊drug testing criteria which include being tested for banned 💊drugs💉 outside of Russia.
🏃Runner, and doping 😚whistle-blower Yuliya Stepanova has been 🆗ed to run and is seen as a role model for 👍clean competitors.
The ⏰deadline to meet qualifying criteria for the Games is 11th July, though the ROC says that could be extended should CAS rule in 👍favour of 🇷🇺Russia's athletes.
