Highly classified information😱 on India's top-secret Scorpene submarine program has been leaked👀 after an Australian daily published excerpts from a 22000-page document📜 that details the operating and build specifics of the 6⃣ submarines being built at the Mazgaon docks in Mumbai🌆. The Scorpenes, being built for about $3.5 billion💰, is considered one of the most advanced in their class. They are highly difficult to detect underwater👍 but now their sonar capabilities, details of combat system and other technical details have been exposed🙆. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the Navy Chief (Admiral Sunil Lanba) has been asked to carry out an investigation🔍 into the leak.
The Australian newspaper📰 has reported that the leak took place in France in 2011. Incidentally, the Scorpene subs are being built🔧 as part of a deal with DCNS, the French shipbuilder. The Scorpene fiasco💥 is being seen as the compromising of security of the project by experts and analysts. The first of the 6⃣ subs - INS Kalveri - is expected to be inducted into the navy soon.
