The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said that 271 Russian athletes will be eligible✅ to compete at the Rio Olympics. Originally, Russia had submitted a list of 389-member squad📜 but the ban on track-and-field athletes by IAAF meant that many were not able to participate including the legendary pole-vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva⭐. Despite the IOC recommending a blanket ban🚫, individual sporting associations have not followed IAAF's decision. The Court of Arbitration for Sports⚖ (CAS) also ruled that a ban on previous Russian offenders is not enforceable👍, which meant Russia's squad will be 271 strong.
Meanwhile, Russia's Olympic Committee president👔 Alexander Zhukov said his country will have 'the cleanest team' at the Games😳 - "The Russian team had to go through multiple tests and checks. On top of all that, Russian athletes are going through additional testing which is taking place at the Olympic Village. We are the cleanest team in Rio probably.😯"
