The first half kicked off with Chelsea really dominating the proceedings by constantly pushing Everton onto the back foot in their own half which culminated in Eden Hazard’s timely goal in the 19th minute. Minutes after that goal, Alonso Mendoza doubled the lead with a clinical attack by Chelsea’s attacking unit. It seemed that Chelsea had calmed down after their twin strikes but in the 42nd minute Diego Costa hammered a volley in after truly shambolic defending by Koeman’s men. The 47th minute brought some respite for Everton who somehow managed to avoid a second goal by Costa. Overall the blues have truly stamped their authority on the game going into the break 3-0 up.
