England have laid a solid foundation👍 on Day 1 at Rajkot in spite of losing 3⃣ wickets in the morning session. A century💯 from Joe Root⭐ and an unbeaten half-century from Moeen Ali guided England to a position of strength. While Root looked assured, Ali's batting was flashy but effective. The duo's partnership🙌 lasted 48 overs and yielded 179 runs. After a wicketless 2nd session, Umesh Yadav⚡ struck towards the end of day's play. Root drove a full-length ball back to the bowler and Yadav held on to the return catch. The bowler took the catch and seemed to lose control😯 when he tried to toss the ball up in celebration. However, the 3rd umpire📺 was convinced that, the ball was in Yadav's grasp long enough unlike Herschelle Gibbs in 1999😏 and ruled☝ in favour of the fielding side.
After Root's dismissal, Ben Stokes and Ali blunted the bowling with their defence and saw off the remaining few overs.
India are yet to take the new ball✨ and will hope to strike early tomorrow. Ali is one short of a well deserved century and will look to carry on to help England post a formidable total.
