Patching up: Obama and Trump meet

  |   World News

President-elect Donald Trump and President Obama, both highly critical of one another during the election campaign, had a 90-minute closed door meeting to begin a whirlwind transition of power. About 45 minutes after Trump's arrival, White House chief of staff Denis McDonough was seen taking Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and other Trump aides, including Dan Scavino, across the edge of the Rose Garden. Afterwards, McDonough led Kushner on a walk down the South Lawn. Apparently, First Lady Michelle Obama gave Melania Trump a guided tour of the White House.

President Obama had this to say: "I have been very encouraged by the interest Trump's [expressed] with wanting to work with my team."

Trump broke with a long-standing protocol by not allowing the press corps to travel with him to the White House. His private jet was saluted by water cannons upon arrival in Washington DC.
