After a thoroughly clinical 2 sessions of Test cricket at Hobart, South Africa are well and truly on top of Australia after reaching tea at 43/0 on day 1 after bundling out the hosts for just 85 in the first innings.
It was Vernon Philander who did most of the damage with a 5-wicket haul. The pacer was instrumental in reducing Aussies to 17/5 within no time. Only Steven Smith (48*) and Joe Mennie (10) crossed double figures as Proteas ran amok to end Australia's innings at a paltry 85. It was a mix of substandard batting and brilliant bowling that led to such a headline session.
In reply, Stephen Cook and Dean Elgar are going strong for South Africa and they have batted out 18 overs to steer them to 43/0.
