Last month, Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, co-owners of Chanel, acquired their very first Napa Valley winery-the 33-year-old, 1,531-acre St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery at Dollarhide Ranch.
But don’t expect bottles emblazoned with the company’s signature double Cs. The brothers also say that they purchased the vineyards based on their love of wine and not as an extension of the brand.
The iconic logo is believed to have been inspired by the identical double Cs found in the stained-glass windows at the chapel of Château de Cremat Vineyards in Nice, France, where Coco Chanel spent time with the owner, her friend Irène Bretz.
