Congress asks BJP to make public its bank account details

HAVING COME under attack from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the party's criticism of the decision to suddenly recall Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes, the Congress on Monday hit back, saying an "autocratic" PM "bloating over the arrogance of numbers" has plunged the country into a state of economic anarchy.

Arguing that a "select few" had knowledge of the decision, the party asked the BJP to make public bank account statements of its central and state units from March to September this year.

Referring to reports that West Bengal BJP deposited Rs 3 crore hours before before the demonetisation decision was announced on November 8 evening, Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala asked, "Will Modi show the courage of conviction by making public details of all bank accounts of BJP's state units and central unit, which will prove how much money was deposited in banks the run-up to the decision?"
