Confirming reports of ill health, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced on Wednesday that she is undergoing treatment for kidney failure. The announcement shed light on the minister’s precise health issues, even as it put to rest months of speculation.
Ms Swaraj was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in April to treat respiratory problems. Thereafter she remained out of action for few weeks. Subsequently, senior diplomatic sources told The Hindu that the minister’s health issues had prevented her from meeting visiting dignitaries.
