Illegal Mining International refineries to reject Ghana’s gold over "galamsey"

International refineries have hinted at blacklisting countries that employ unethical mining methods and this might become an issue for Ghana.Industry players in the mining sector have cautioned authorities over the dire consequences of galamsey on Ghana's mineral revenues.These players believe that, apart from the environmental hazards that galamsey causes, the country also risks losing patronage of its gold by global refineries.

The mining industry in Ghana accounts for 5% of the country's GDP and minerals make up 37% of total exports, with gold contributing over 90% of the total mineral exports.
