In a clash between two of India's Olympic medal winners in Badminton, PV Sindhu got the better of Saina Nehwal 21-16, 22-20 and reached the semifinals of the Indian Open superseries tournament at Siri Fort Sports Complex in Hyderabad.
It was the lanky Sindhu who began the match in terrific fashion while Saina Nehwal was way too defensive which helped the former to gain the upperhand. She opened up a three-point lead and sealed the set 21-16.
Saina tried to come back in the second set and managed to get a 19-16 lead but Sindhu rallied brilliantly to level the scores and then extend the game further. Ultimately, she clinched the set 22-20 and the game with it.
The 21-year-old Sindhu displayed real nerves of steel to finish off the second set to notch an impressive victory. Sindhu will now face second seeded Korean shuttler Sung Ji Hyun in the semis.
