West Indies's lower middle order put up a strong fight to help the hosts revive from 71 for 5 and finish the opening day of the first Test on 244 for 7, before bad lights stopped play after 81 overs at Sabina Park in Kingston.
Shane Dowrich joined Roston Chase in the centre at 71/5 and began resurrecting the innings of the hosts. Their 118-run stand wasn't the most eye-pleasing cricket. There were several play and misses, the approach was rather dour, and the pacers didn't have the kind of advantage they had in the first couple of hours, anymore. Yasir Shah's threat was negated as well in the second session with the legspinner pitching it too full to trouble the batsmen. Thus, despite being boring, their approach proved effective.
