“Every time I’m in New York, I feel the energy of the city,” said Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli at the Top of the Standard last night. The designer was celebrating his Resort 2018 collection—which was shown earlier in the day—over Champagne, ginger cocktails, and a DJ set by Harley Viera-Newton.
“I feel [there are] more cultural aspects I want to tell about,” Piccioli continued. “This is a vibrant city. It is really alive. What happened in the ’70s with hip-hop is what’s happening in the world. Every city in the world has people trying to express themselves in new ways.”
In a highlight of the night, Mary J. Blige performed an impromptu set from the left of the winding bar. “What a surprise!” exclaimed Nicky Hilton Rothschild as she made her way through the crowd.
