🇹🇿Tanzania have progressed to the quarterfinals of the COSAFA Cup 2017 after topping Group A, following today's 1⃣-1⃣ draw against Mauritius🇲🇺. They were helped by the fact that 🇲🇼Malawi managed to hold Angola🇦🇴 to a 0⃣-0⃣ draw in the other group game.
The results meant Tanzania and Angola were locked at the top with five points each but a better goal difference means Tanzania progressed as group winners.
Tanzania started the game with star striker Tomas Ulimwengu but were unable to fashion a breakthrough despite Yahya Ramadhani striking the post. However, Mauritius took the lead Kevin Perticots who chipped the goalkeeper after a swift counterattack. But Tanzania equalised almost immediately through Saimon Msuva. Despite Mauritius fullback Damien Balisson getting sent off, they held out for a draw.
In the other game, Malawi needed a win to have any chances of progression and started the game with intent, Dalisto Sailesi forcing a save from Angolan goalkeeper Neblu early on. However, chances dried up as the game went on and even though Angola pressed hard for a winner, it would remain elusive and both teams crashed out of the tournament.
