Five suicide bombers blew themselves up on Friday during raids on two refugee camps in eastern Lebanon near the border with Syria, injuring seven soldiers, the army said. The attack occurred in the morning when soldiers were conducting raids in the border town of Arsal.
According to the army, the raids to arrest terrorists and seize weapons are still ongoing. Militants have thrived along Lebanon’s border with Syria since the Syrian civil war broke out six years ago.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Lebanon is presently hosting 1.03 million Syrian refugees who fled their war-torn country since the rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad started in March 2011.
