Saidi Abdhalla has conceded defeat to journalist Mohammed Ali in the Nyali MP seat. Abdhalla, who is Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's cousin, garnered 13,673 votes while Ali had 22,348 votes by 9.30am.

He told The Star on phone that he has "already moved on" and respects the choice of residents. "It was a tight race. We have learnt from our mistakes and we shall put a strong fight in future," the ODM candidate said.

"I would like to [congratulate] my opponent Mohammed Ali on winning the seat. I sincerely thank all those who took their time to come out and vote for me yesterday," he said on Facebook. Ali, of the KTN Jicho Pevu fame, ran for the seat as an independent candidate after losing to Abdhalla in the orange party primaries in April.
