A showdown looms in Nairobi today as NASA and Jubilee supporters stage duelling demonstrations under tight security outside the IEBC offices. NASA wants CEO Ezra Chiloba out, Jubilee wants him to stay. NASA leader Raila Odinga yesterday urged his supporters to come out in large numbers to demonstrate at the Anniversary Towers.
The mission is to 'eject' the commission's CEO Ezra Chiloba over allegations he compromised the integrity of the August 8 General Eelction. However, no one will be able to enter the premises, which will be locked and closely guarded. The demo follows the Supreme Court verdict, which annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory.
Some JP supporters, led by Gema Nairobi branch chairman Wilfred Kamau, said they would hold counter-demos to protect Chiloba. Gema is an association of the Kikuyu, Meru and Embu communities. "We promise that as they prepare to come and remove Chiloba, we'll be there to protect not only Chiloba, but also the interests of Kenyans," Kamau said.
