Jubilee's move to amend the election laws stalled the IEBC's talks with NASA and Jubilee yesterday, even as the commission clarified it needs no additional law to deliver. The NASA team, led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, walked out of the Bomas meeting and declared "no election" on October 26 on the basis of the development. Orengo said the opposition will take the battle back to the people, adding that Jubilee will be responsible for whatever happens thereafter.
The NASA team, which also included city lawyers Norman Magaya and Paul Mwangi, warned the proposed laws, if allowed, seek to sanitise all that formed the basis of the nullification of the presidential results by the Supreme Court judges on September 1.
"Jubilee's objective through these amendments is to remove everything which was the basis of the Supreme Court verdict. Everything that went wrong in terms of the last election has been sanitised by these amendments," said Orengo after walking out of the meeting. Magaya said, "October 26 is just another day in the calendar. There is no election."
