Despite the Election Commission's promises and assurances, media reports have emerged of multiple EVM glitches in the very first hour of voting for the Gujarat elections.
The Hindu reports that in the first hour of voting, as many as 50 complaints of EVM glitches have emerged with Rajkot itself reporting 33 glitches.
New Delhi Television reports that 70 EVMs have malfunctioned in Surat.
According to the Hindu report, glitches have taken place in Rajkot, Rajpipla, Bhavnagar, Palitana, Porbandar. Porbandar had EVM issues in 8 polling booths and Amreli had them in 5 polling booths.
"There are reports of EVM malfunctioning in several polling stations. Request the Election Commission to take necessary action immediately," said Cong leader Ahmed Patel.
The first hour reported 8 percent turnout of voters and EVM glitches naturally delay the process and frustrate the voters who have to often stand in long queues.
