Turkana residents are outraged that traders there are selling the government's subsidised maize flour at Sh150 for a 2kg pack. They said the unga , which only got to Lodwar outlets last week, costs more than regular packets.
David Barasa, a mason in Lodwar town said they were excited until they learned of the prices as they could not afford the flour. The people have resorted to buying grains at Sh120 for two kilogramme containers.
“Casual labourers take ugali every day. Life has been very difficult for us since the prices went up," he said. “Some of my colleagues have left work to go back to their villages in Western because they can’t work on empty stomachs.”
