Anil Kumble’s future as India coach, which was looking bleak before the start of the Champions Trophy, seems to be getting brighter by the day. After he reapplied for the post when he didn’t have to for being the incumbent, it is understood that the cricket advisory committee is in favour of him continuing until the 2019 World Cup.
The committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman was supposed to interview the applicants on Wednesday, but that didn’t happen. There are indications from the BCCI that the committee will first speak to Kumble, who apparently wants to make another presentation. It is understood that they have met a few India players during the course of the tournament. Although most of them have apparently objected to Kumble’s manner of functioning, they seem to have no problems if he changes his style.
