🎥 The Mummy
Duta Rating ⭐(1/5)
When Universal🌎 decided to resurrect their monster movies under a new 'Dark Universe'👽 banner, little did we know that they would kill all joys😴 associated with the old films. If 'The Mummy'⚰ is any indication of the horrors😱 to come, then the audience must be afraid. Very afraid.😰
Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) is a military maverick🔫 but an antiquities hunter on the side⚱. In a quest gone wrong in Iraq🇮🇶, he unearths the tomb of evil Egyptian sorceress🔮 Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) who is now on a mission to reclaim Earth🌍 through Nick, who she's convinced, she shares a supernatural bond💞 with. How Nick saves the day is the rest of this predictable fare😒.

Gattu (Rajkummar Rao) has been in love with his neighbour🏘💓 Binny (Shruti Haasan) for many years but the families👪 are convinced he's no more than a brother-like👨👧 figure to her. The brightest spark in this film is Rajkummar Rao🙎🏻♂ and his very likeable performance. But the biggest shortfall is everything else🤦🏻♀.
Grown men acting like boys👦🏻, a heroine who is an utter misfit for the part and shows no spark at all🤷🏻♀ and the film's shoddy execution. The film is juvenile and a drag⏰. It is patriarchal but makes no comment on it🙋🏻♂. But that's not to say the film didn't have potential though. There is some spark in the writing✍🏻 and interesting scenes - like a love track at a funeral💐. But the drama is stale and scenes belong to many decades👵🏽 ago.

This film is the perfect foil😤 to your happy weekend plan. 2⃣ strangers, the cocky and over confident Shiv🤠 (Sushant Singh Rajput) and sprightly and level-headed Saira 💁🏻 (Kriti Sanon) meet on foreign soil🗺. Through their undeniable chemistry and passion💏, they fall in love. But when the super rich and superbad👔💰 Zak (Jim Sarbh) is unable to handle Saira's rejection🙅🏻, he kidnaps her to a secret island.
Which is when chaos unravels😵 for the three characters as well as the audience👥 as they're transported to a world of Game of Thrones cosplay⚔ and past parodies. The 3⃣ have a mysterious past life connection, wielding swords, fighting tigers🐯 and engaging the audience in nothing. And when the film🎞 boomerangs back to the present, it's already lost us👀 in a very messy quagmire from which there's no escape.🚪
