2015 champions Stanislas Wawrinka has outlasted Andy Murray to advance to the final of the French Open on Friday.

The Swiss star triumphed 6-7, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1 after a gruelling five setter at Roland Garros to reach his fourth Grand Slam final.

Though Murray started well, clinching a tight first set in the tie-breaker, Wawrinka, a two-time champions here, hit back in the second. However, it seemed Murray gained the upperhand when he edged the third set.

However, Stan upped his game considerably in the fourth which presented the spectators the best phase of tennis in the match. Though Murray battled hard, Wawrinka blazed through the tie-breaker to take it to the decider.

Murray, whose shoulders slumped visibly when he lost the fourth set, was clueless in the fifth as Wawrinka came up with stupendous forehand passes down the line and delectable backhands.

Wawrinka will meet either Rafael Nadal or Dominic Thiem in the final.
