The Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra govt. today agreed to waive farm loans of small farmers worth ₹ 30,000 crore💰
A panel for implementation of the scheme has also been setup.
Around 1.07 crore farmers in the state with less than 5⃣ acre land holding will be eligible for the waiver which will, according to reports📝, push up⬆ the state's fiscal deficit to 2.71% in FY’18 of gross state domestic product (GSDP)
The state govt. has been under immense pressure from farmers who were protesting for a loan waiver as well as a number of other demands such as free electricity⚡, irrigation grants, pension for senior farmers and implementation of the MS Swaminathan Committee recommendations.
