Pakistan🇵🇰 went on a roller-coaster of a game against Sri Lanka & emerged victors🎉 to seal a spot in the semi-finals. After a superb bowling performance, they made a meal out of the mediocre target but managed to haul themselves over the line😃.
Invited to bat first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 236. Niroshan Dickwella top-scored for the Lankans but the heroes of the previous game, Mendis, Gunathilaka & Mathews failed to provide any support😟. PAK pacers⚡ sizzled once again, picking up 8⃣ wickets between them.
Pakistan began the chase well, with debutant 💪Fakhar Zaman making a whirlwind half-century while Azhar Ali batted like he was wearing whites. Sri Lanka stormed👊 back into the game in the middle overs with crucial wickets. Pakistan were reduced to 131/5 at the half-way stage and the match was tantalisingly poised. Nuwan Pradeep⚡ had allrounder Imad Wasim nick one to the keeper and slogger Fahim Ashraf, guilty of backing up a long way at the non-striker's end, ran himself out😯. The scorecard read 162/7 at the end of 30 overs. Sri Lanka had a foot on the door.
Amidst the carnage, captain Sarfraz Ahmed kept calm🙏 and gave his team a glimmer of hope. He found an able partner in Mohammad Amir and the duo forged a fighting 75-run partnership🙌. They were helped by some atrocious fielding😖 from the Lankans, who lost the plot - conceding overthrows, getting nutmegged in the outfield and dropping the simplest of catches😱. Sarfraz was dropped twice - Perera at mid off & Gunathilaka at square leg. The Pakistan skipper made them pay for squandering the opportunities and led his team to victory👏.
It is has been a remarkable effort from Pakistan to bounce back after a resounding loss against India🇮🇳 and qualify for the semis. England await them on the 14th of June.
