The Madras high court in Monday directed the jurisdictional police to arrest self-styled godman Nithyananda and produce him before the court on Wednesday.
Justice R Mahadevan passed the interim order as the godman had made misleading and false statements in the court and failed to rectify them even after repeated warnings.
"He is not above all, only law prevails over anything in this court," said an infuriated Justice Mahadevan.
This apart, the court also ordered seizure of a cellphone used by one of the disciples of the godman, who was found passing messages about the proceedings from the court.
The issue pertains to a plea moved by M Jagathalapradhapan of Madurai seeking a direction to the government to take suitable and appropriate action against Nithyananda and protect the Madurai mutt.
