Second seed Marin Cilic beat 2010 finalist Fernando Verdasco 6-3 7-6 (7-4) on Court Rainier III to set up a third round match against Milos Raonic in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
Cilic got the first break in the fourth game to open up a 3-1 lead at deuce before saving three break points en route to winning the first set 6-3 in 35 minutes.
Cilic converted his third break point in the second game to open up a 2-0 lead in the second set, but Cilic broke straight back in the next game to draw level to 2-2. Verdasco broke serve in the ninth game earning a chance to serve for the set, when Cilic netted a drop-shot at 30-40 as he was serving at 30-40.
