KXIP 193/3 (Gayle 104, Nair 31)
SRH 178/4 (Pandey 57, Williamson 54; Tye 2-23)
It took a Chris Gayle special to break SRH's stronghold at Mohali and deliver a convincing win for Kings XI. With this emphatic victory, Ashwin's team leap frog their opponents to go 2nd in the table.
It was a quintessential Gayle blitz with 70% of his runs coming through boundaries. He was especially severe against leggie Rashid Kahn, smashing the youngster for 4 consecutive sixes in an over. He reached his 6th IPL ton in the 19th over as the Kings' total soared close to 200. Karun Nair played a very ablefoil to the big hitting southpaw with a well paced knock.
In the chase, SRH were dealt a body blow as Shikhar Dhawan retired hurt in the first over after being struck on his left elbow. Saha and Yusuf Pathan were dismissed cheaply and it was left to captain Kane Williamson to see his team through. R. Ashwin rotated his bowlers well and made sure the required rate remained out of reach for the risers. Fifties from Williamson and Pandey weren't enough as they surrendered to a 15-run defeat.
