Chevrolet was caught testing a test mule of the 2019 Camaro in its hometown in Detroit. The mid-life update to the Camaro is expected to include mere cosmetic changes to the muscle car. Meanwhile, the interior images confirm that Chevy has retained the six-speed manual transmission, thus dismissing rumours of its discontinuation.
According to the rumours, the American carmaker was planning to adopt the same seven-speed transmission from the Corvette. But now the test mule is evidence after the fact that the 2019 Camaro will retain the same six-speed for now. However, a 10-speed automatic transmission is still on the cards. The exterior hides a revised fascia with a larger grille and sleeker headlights. The rear will also have redesigned taillights along with a new bumper.
In order to pose rivalry against the updated Mustang, a slight jump in power output of the same 6.2-litre V8 on the SS trim may be expected. The hardcore Z28 is also on the cards which will take the Camaro right up to the league of the Shelby GT350. The impending 10-speed transmission will reportedly be plonked into the ZL1 trim. Apart from these, more features and hardware are likely to be scrounged from the recently revealed Cadillac ATS-V.
