CD Projekt Red is currently keeping itself busy working on Cyberpunk 2077 and many are wondering if the studio will ever return to their first big game franchise, The Witcher. It now seems we have an answer as to whether gamers will be returning to that world again in the future.
Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt Red, was speaking with Polish financial website Bankier and brought up the possibility of a new Witcher game. While no time frame was given on when to expect the next title in the series, Kicinski stated the company wrapped up a trilogy with the first three games, so the next one probably would not be called The Witcher 4. He also understands that the series is something the studio has worked on for over a decade and has built a significant fan base who aren’t ready to leave that world behind. Kicinski went on to say that The Witcher series is “one of two franchises” the company is looking build its future on.
He wasn’t able to disclose any other information regarding a return to the series at this time, though. Outside of Cyberpunk 2077, which currently doesn’t have an official release date, the studio has another project is is currently working on. Information on that title has yet to be revealed, but it is being rumored it could see a release in 2021.
This news that the studio hopes to return to the world of The Witcher will make many happy, as the studio stated earlier this year that it can’t work on a Witcher sequel due to other projects. However, that statement could have just been referring to the studio not being able to focus on it for the near future due to prior commitments and that a new Witcher game is not a top priority right now.
