Fans eagerly awaiting Rey Mysterio to return to WWE are going to have to wait a bit longer.
Thursday night, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced that Rey Mysterio will be working the G1 Climax Finals show on August 12th in Budokan Hall. His opponent hasn’t been confirmed, on a card as impressive as the G1 Finals should be, it’s an added bonus even seeing Mysterio on the show.
This news may come as a surprise to those who have been keeping updated on Mysterio. Earlier this week, reports suggested that he’d finalized a deal and would be returning to Raw or Smackdown Live sometime around SummerSlam. Evidently, this doesn’t seem to be the case based on NJPW’s announcement.
Of course, it’s important to note that WWE often allows new signees to complete already agreed to dates when they officially sign their contracts. And while WWE often includes a non-compete clause that prevents working for other companies after leaving, most of the time a new talent can debut immediately after working for another promotion.
