India A were served a wholesome serving of reality on their first competitive outing in the British Isles as England Lions romped home to a comfortable seven-wicket victory in the opening game of the tri-series at Derby. Nick Gubbins scored a breezy unbeaten 128 to follow up after Liam Dawson's 4 for 30 restricted a strong batting line up to a paltry total of 232, a target that was eventually wolfed down with 49 deliveries to spare.
After a wonderful spell from Dawson, Gubbins, in the company of a steady Sam Hain (54), produced an innings of untroubled beauty. He hit 10 fours and two sixes, and remained unbeaten until the end to lay down an early marker for the series.
