Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery after suffering a brain haemorrhage, the club has confirmed.
United have confirmed that Ferguson, their manager for 27 years until his retirement in 2013, is receiving treatment in hospital.
A United statement read: "Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain haemorrhage.
"The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter.
"Everyone at Manchester United sends our very best wishes."
Ferguson was seen just last weekend at Old Trafford, as he presented departing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with a gift to commemorate his time in north London.
