Juan Martin del Potro has offered his support to Novak Djokovic as the 12-time Grand Slam champion continues in his attempts to rediscover his best form.
The Serb has lost as many matches as he’s won during a difficult start to 2018, where he was forced to undergo a ‘small medical intervention’ on his long-suffering elbow.
He’s only managed to amass 290 ranking points so far this season and sits 76th in the Race to London. And with semi-final points to defend in Madrid, he could even fall outside the top-20 if results go against him.
To make matters worse, Djokovic, 30, has been handed a nightmare first-round draw against Monte-Carlo finalist Kei Nishikori.
"I think there are few players that can come back from injuries and be so good, be up in the rankings where they deserve to be. I think that Djokovic is one of those players. Also [Andy] Murray did it, [Stan] Wawrinka. There are not many more players that are capable of coming back from injury. I think that’s what’s going to happen.
"For me personally, I would like to see Djokovic come back in the place where he should be. Hopefully he’ll be able to do that because I really like him, I really support him."
