Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday unveiled Tamil Nadu’s aerospace and defence industrial policy 2019, at the inaugural session of the Global Investors Meet (GIM). The first copy was received by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
After releasing the policy, she said one of two defence industrial corridors in the country is coming up in Tamil Nadu and requested investors to put money in the State in the aerospace, defence and defence-related sectors. Ms Sitharaman also assured all support from the Centre to the investors.
Speaking at the event, Tamil Nadu Industries minister M.C. Sampath said over 5,000 delegates from India and abroad (Japan, UK, Singapore among others) have registered for the event. He said GIM 2019 will exceed the commitments received during the first edition of GIM in 2015 - over ₹2.42 lakh crore. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will announce the quantum of investment during the valedictory session on Thursday, he added.
