AFG - 256/8 (Najibullah Zadran 104*, Afghan 75; Rankin 2-56)
IRE - 260/6 (Balbirnie 145, Dockrell 54)
Ireland won by 4 wickets (6 deliveries to spare)
Andy Balbirnie guided the Irish through a tricky chase against the wily Afghan spinners with an unbeaten century at Dehra Dun. Batting at No.3, he anchored the innings superbly and after the rest of the top order failed to make significant contributions, he found an able ally in George Dockrell with whom he added 143 runs for the 5th wicket. With 7 overs to go (Rashid Khan to bowl 4 of those), Ireland needed a run-a-ball with 5 wickets in hand. However, Balbirnie timed his charge perfectly and led his team to victory with one over to spare. The centurion has to thank some of the sloppy fielding from the Afghans as he was dropped thrice during that innings.
Earlier, Najibullah Zadran helped Afghanistan recover from a perilous situation - 74/5 at one stage - to post a fighting total, after they opted to bat. A 117-run association between skipper Asghar Afghan and Najibullah Zadran revived Afghanistan's innings.
