Zanu PF youth league secretary Pupurai Togarepi on Saturday threw his weight behind his deputy, Lewis Matutu after he reportedly received death threats from corrupt ZANU PF officials.
Matutu made the stunning revelations in an interview with Newsday last week when he said that he had been receiving threatening calls from party bigwigs for his crusade against corruption.
His boss, Togarepi told The Standard that any further attack on Matutu will invite a firm response from the youth league. Said Togarepi:
"It has always been our position to name and shame corrupt individuals and saboteurs. Lewis Matutu is a messenger, don’t fight him.
"Any further attack on him will invite a firm response from the youth league.
"They crossed the Rubicon line by threatening the deputy secretary. We cannot allow them to vandalise the efforts by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to rebuild Zimbabwe."
Togarepi went on as far as threatening a shut down of tuckshops in downtown Harare that are alleged to be involved in illegal foreign currency dealings.
