With the Brahmaputra flowing two metres above the danger level at Neematighat in eastern Assam’s Jorhat district, the number of villages affected by flood waters has risen to 61 on Saturday from 47 on Friday, affecting a population of 24896 in the district.
In the Jorhat West revenue circle, 19 villages have been affected, in Titabor revenue circle, nine villages have been affected and in the Teok and Jorhat East revenue circles, 15 and 18 villages have been inundated.
Cattle unable to feed are seen grazing by the roadside of National Highway 37.
A district administration official said that two relief camps have been set up under Jorhat West revenue circle and 197 people are inhabiting them....
